Lalylala Mini Mod: Frog Prince

Published on 30 January 2019

I have previously shared my mod for a Lalylala Mini Giraffe. The next Lalylala Mini Mod I have to share is a Frog Prince. Admittedly this is a very minor mod, but a mod it still is.

To make a mini Frog Prince using the samengehaakt Mini Bina the Bear pattern, make the components as follows:

Stitches & Techniques

Using US notation.

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: increase
  • picot (image instructions)
  • magic circle/loop (left-handed video instructions, for right-handers YouTube or Google instructions that suit you - it took a few before I found one that I followed easily)
  • slst: slip stitch
  • […]: repeat to the end of the round, or n times if indicated
  • (…): crochet into the same stitch

Yarn

Scheepjes Stone Washed in:

  • Canada Jade
  • Moon Stone
  • Black Onyx
  • Beryl
  • Red Jasper

Head, Cap

As written.

After assembling, you can stitch a black yarn smile/mouth for the frog in the cap.

Arms/Hands

As written, but continue in accent colour from the cuff, changing to body colour at row 13.

Frog Eyes

Make two Bina ears in cap colour.

Whites (in white) R1. sc 6 into a magic circle (6) R2. [inc] (12) R3. [sc, inc] (18)

Pupils (in black) R1. sc 6 into a magic circle (6) Sew to whites.

Sew eyes to Bina ears.

Legs

As written, in accent colour, changing to body colour after the foot decreases.

Body

As written.

Crown

R1. ch 10, slst to form ring R2: ch 1, sc 10, slst to join round R3: [ch 2, (dc, picot, ch 2), slst] - note each repetition only occupies two stitches of the round, you will finish the round with 5 peaks

Scarf

Make this after assembling. I knit this scarf instead of crochet.

  1. Cast on 4
  2. Knit in stockinette until total length almost 2x Lalylala height
  3. Bind off

Notes

For the eyes I use 8 ply black yarn and do a few straight stitches into the same two points until the pupil is built up how I like it, fluffing the yarn up a bit as needed.
